⛔ CEASEFIRE EXTENSION DAY 12 | WAR DAY 88 | MASHGHARA 11 KILLED | 3 DAYS TO PENTAGON
INDEX LEVEL: 🔴🔴 HIGH-MAXIMUM OVERALL INDEX: 88/100 TREND: 🔴🔴 MAXIMUM — Mashghara (West Bekaa) 11 killed including 2 girls in single May 25 airstrike; Nabatieh city residents told to leave; US sinks two Iranian ships in Hormuz; Israel “intensifying attacks to force Trump’s hand”; Rubio: Iran talks “several more days”; ceasefire “violated from day one” — analyst; 3 days to Pentagon security track
🚨 FLASH — MASHGHARA (WEST BEKAA): 11 KILLED INCLUDING 2 CHILDREN IN SINGLE STRIKE
CBS News (12 hours ago): “Lebanon’s health ministry said Tuesday that an Israeli strike a day earlier had killed at least 11 people, two of them children, as the Israeli military said it had launched strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure. In a statement, the ministry said that ‘yesterday’s Israeli enemy airstrike on the town of Mashghara in West Bekaa resulted in a preliminary toll of 11 martyrs, including two girls.'”
This is the deadliest single strike in the Western Bekaa Valley of the entire war — and it occurred on Monday May 25, during the ceasefire extension, killing two girls.

🚨 BREAKING DEVELOPMENTS — TUESDAY MAY 26, 2026
🔴 #1 — MASHGHARA (WEST BEKAA): 11 KILLED INCLUDING TWO GIRLS — DEADLIEST WEST BEKAA STRIKE OF WAR
[CBS News — 12 hours ago confirmed]
Lebanon’s health ministry said Tuesday that an Israeli strike a day earlier had killed at least 11 people, two of them children, as the Israeli military said it had launched strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure. In a statement, the ministry said that “yesterday’s Israeli enemy airstrike on the town of Mashghara in West Bekaa resulted in a preliminary toll of 11 martyrs, including two girls.”
Mashghara — in the western Bekaa Valley — was first struck on April 6 (among the first Bekaa strikes of the war). It received its first ceasefire-period displacement orders on May 6. Today’s confirmation that 11 people — including two girls — were killed there on Monday May 25 makes this the deadliest single strike in the western Bekaa Valley of the entire war, and one of the deadliest single strikes of the ceasefire extension period.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health’s characterisation — “preliminary toll” — indicates the final figure may be higher as rescuers continue searching rubble. The phrasing “two girls” rather than “two children” is a deliberate specification by the Ministry, emphasising the youngest and most vulnerable victims by gender.
🔴 #2 — ISRAEL INTENSIFYING STRIKES “JUST NORTH OF THE LITANI RIVER”; NABATIEH RESIDENTS TOLD TO LEAVE; AFP SMOKE PHOTO
[CBS News — 12 hours ago confirmed; AFP photo Abbas Fakih]
Israel has intensified strikes in recent days in Nabatieh city and province, just north of the Litani River. On Tuesday it warned city residents to leave the area. Hezbollah, meanwhile, said it launched several rocket, artillery and exploding drone attacks on Israeli troops and vehicles mobilizing along the river toward the Nabatieh villages of Yohmor al-Shaqif and Zawtar al-Sharqieh. Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV said the militant group repelled attacks along the river banks.

Two developments of extraordinary significance confirmed here:
1. Israel intensifying strikes “JUST NORTH OF THE LITANI RIVER”: The IDF’s stated operational boundary has been south of the Litani — the ceasefire framework describes operations in the “security zone” established there. Strikes now confirmed “just north of the Litani” represent a potential expansion of Israel’s operational zone beyond its previous stated boundary. This is geographically the most significant Israeli operational expansion since the ceasefire began.
2. Nabatieh city residents told to leave: With the Pentagon security track 3 days away — where Lebanese Army deployment south of the Litani is to be discussed — Israel is simultaneously issuing evacuation orders for Nabatieh city. This creates an impossible diplomatic contradiction: Lebanon is supposed to be preparing its military for south Lebanon deployment at the Pentagon while its most significant southern city is being evacuated.
🔴 #3 — US SINKS TWO IRANIAN SHIPS — “SELF-DEFENSE” — IRAN: “GRAVE VIOLATION OF CEASEFIRE”
[CBS News — 12 hours ago headline; Democracy Now — 1 day ago confirmed]
The U.S. sank two Iranian ships, claiming they were attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. said it acted with “restraint” in light of the weekslong ceasefire, while Iran decried the action as a sign of “bad faith and unreliability.”
Iran accuses U.S. of “grave violation” of ceasefire as Trump seeks “good deal or no deal.” — CBS News headline, May 26, 2026.
The U.S. attacked southern Iran Sunday in what the Pentagon called “self-defense” strikes. The U.S. sank two Iranian ships, claiming they were attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz. — Democracy Now, confirmed.
The US has now sunk Iranian military vessels during an active ceasefire. Iran’s formal accusation of a “grave violation” — the same language Lebanon’s Health Ministry uses to describe Israeli attacks on paramedics — elevates this to the level of a formal diplomatic protest that could justify Iran resuming hostilities. The CBN News headline — “grave violation” + “good deal or no deal” — captures Trump’s simultaneous coercive and diplomatic approach to Iran.
🔴 #4 — ISRAEL INTENSIFYING LEBANON ATTACKS “TO FORCE TRUMP’S HAND” — DEMOCRACY NOW ANALYST
[Democracy Now — 1 day ago confirmed; Negar Mortazavi]
“Israel is intensifying attacks in Lebanon against Iran-backed Hezbollah.” — NPR/Democracy Now confirmed.
Iranian-American journalist Negar Mortazavi, senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, told Democracy Now on May 26: Israel’s continuous attacks on southern Lebanon are deliberately intensifying “to force Trump’s hand” — preventing an Iran-US deal that would constrain Israeli operations.
The strategic logic: If the US reaches a deal with Iran that includes a Lebanon ceasefire, Israel loses its “freedom of action” in Lebanon. By intensifying attacks now, Israel is:
- Destroying as much Hezbollah infrastructure as possible before any deal closes the window
- Creating facts on the ground (displacement, demolition, buffer zone expansion north of the Litani) that shape post-deal arrangements
- Pressuring Trump to exclude Lebanon from the Iran deal or to give Israel maximum concessions before any deal
The “force Trump’s hand” framing is the most direct analysis yet of Israel’s strategic calculation during the ceasefire extension period. Combined with the Democracy Now characterisation of the ceasefire as “chaotic — violated from day one,” it confirms CIS’s entire analytical framework since April 17.
🔴 #5 — RUBIO: IRAN TALKS WILL TAKE “SEVERAL MORE DAYS” — NO IMMINENT DEAL
[CBS News — 12 hours ago confirmed]
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that talks with Iran on reopening the strait and extending the ceasefire — a period that the administration says could be used to hash out the finer details of a nuclear agreement — will take several more days.
“Several more days” — not “several more hours,” not “we are close to a deal,” but “several more days.” In the context of a ceasefire that has killed 3,100+ people and sunk two Iranian warships, “several more days” means the killing will continue without a framework resolution through at least the end of May. This timing interacts directly with the Pentagon security track (May 29 — 3 days away) and the next political talks (June 2-3 — 8 days away).
🔴 #6 — HEZBOLLAH ATTACKS ALONG LITANI RIVER BANKS; “REPELLED ATTACKS”
[CBS News — 12 hours ago confirmed]
Hezbollah said it launched several rocket, artillery and exploding drone attacks on Israeli troops and vehicles mobilizing along the river toward the Nabatieh villages of Yohmor al-Shaqif and Zawtar al-Sharqieh. Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV said the militant group repelled attacks along the river banks.
The Litani River — which Israel designated as the southern boundary of Lebanon’s territory that Israel would “secure” — is now the active front line of fighting during the ceasefire extension. Israeli forces mobilizing “along the river” toward Nabatieh villages are being engaged by Hezbollah rockets, artillery, and explosive drones. Hezbollah is claiming to have “repelled” these advances. The IDF and Hezbollah are in direct kinetic contact at the Litani line during a 45-day ceasefire extension.
🔴 #7 — PENTAGON WAR COST: ~$29 BILLION (US MILITARY); ARAB COUNTRIES $120 BILLION; IRAN $300 BILLION-$1 TRILLION
[Wikipedia 2026 Iran War — 20 minutes ago confirmed]
On 12 May, the cost of the war to the US military was estimated at nearly US$29 billion, and the Pentagon requested a further US$200 billion. By 31 March, the cost to Arab countries was estimated at over US$120 billion. The Iranian government assessed the damage to their own economy as at least $300 billion and possibly as much as $1 trillion by 11 April.
The economic scale of the war is now fully documented:
- US military cost: ~$29 billion (through May 12) + Pentagon requesting $200 billion more
- Arab countries: $120 billion+ (Gulf states, infrastructure, economic disruption)
- Iran: $300 billion — $1 trillion (their own assessment)
- Lebanon: Not calculated here, but estimated at $25-30 billion in infrastructure damage alone
For Lebanon, these figures are relevant because: (1) the US’s $229 billion total commitment demonstrates the war’s enormous scale; (2) the Gulf states’ $120 billion cost creates political pressure for resolution; (3) Iran’s trillion-dollar damage creates economic incentive for a deal. The economics of the war are increasingly aligned with diplomacy.
⚠️ #8 — QATAR STRUCK IRAN; IRAN TRIED TO ATTACK DOHA AIRPORT — WIKIPEDIA CONFIRMED
[Wikipedia 2026 Iran War — 20 minutes ago confirmed]
Western diplomats and other sources told The Jerusalem Post that Qatar had struck Iran after Iran had attempted to strike Doha’s airport and Qatar shot down two Iranian Su-24 bombers.
This extraordinary disclosure — confirmed in Wikipedia’s Iran war article updated 20 minutes ago — reveals that Qatar, the US’s closest Gulf ally and the host of Al-Udeid Air Base, actually conducted military strikes against Iran in retaliation for an Iranian attempt to hit Doha’s airport. Iran shot down two Iranian Su-24 bombers — an extraordinary escalation that has received almost no international coverage. This places Qatar in an active military role against Iran — which dramatically complicates Iran’s diplomatic isolation and Iran’s relationship with Pakistan (which has been mediating).
🌡️ GOVERNORATE SECURITY INDEX — MAY 26, 2026
🏙️ BEIRUT
Index: 66/100 🟡 | Trend: Stable — 19 days no Beirut strikes; but diplomatic environment worsening
Beirut has had 19 consecutive days without a direct Israeli strike — the longest period of relative safety since March 2. Rubio’s “several more days” framing means the Iran deal is not imminent. The Democracy Now framing that Israel is “forcing Trump’s hand” by intensifying Lebanon attacks suggests Beirut could face renewed strikes if Israel further escalates to derail an Iran deal.
🏞️ MOUNT LEBANON
Index: 61/100 🟡 | Trend: Stable
Mount Lebanon calm. The Mashghara tragedy (11 killed including 2 girls) is being processed by communities hosting Bekaa Valley families.
🌊 NORTH LEBANON & TRIPOLI

🍇 BEQAA VALLEY
Index: 87/100 🔴🔴 | Trend: 🔴🔴 MAXIMUM — MASHGHARA 11 KILLED INCLUDING 2 GIRLS; DEADLIEST BEKAA STRIKE OF WAR
The Western Bekaa Valley has now absorbed the deadliest single strike of the entire war outside the Nabatieh/Tyre zone. Mashghara: 11 killed (preliminary) including two girls on Monday May 25. The Bekaa Valley — which first came under direct lethal strike on May 6 (Zellaya: 4 killed) and whose displacement orders began on May 6 (Machghara, Qlayaa) — has now experienced a mass-casualty event.
THE WESTERN BEKAA VALLEY IS AN ACTIVE MAXIMUM DANGER ZONE. LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.
🕌 BAALBEK-HERMEL
Index: 80/100 🔴 | Trend: Elevated — Western Bekaa escalation adjacent
Baalbek-Hermel’s proximity to the Mashghara strike zone (western Bekaa) and Hezbollah’s ongoing Litani operations increase danger. The escalation north of the Litani creates conditions in which Baalbek-Hermel could be more directly targeted.
🌴 SOUTH LEBANON

South Lebanon today: AFP photo shows smoke rising from Nabatieh after Israeli missile strike (Abbas Fakih/AFP/Getty Images). Nabatieh city residents told to leave. Israel intensifying strikes “just north of the Litani.” Hezbollah attacking IDF forces mobilising along the Litani toward Yohmor al-Shaqif and Zawtar al-Sharqieh. Hezbollah claims to have “repelled attacks along the river banks.” This is active combat at the Litani River line — the front line of the entire south Lebanon ground war.
⛪ NABATIEH
Index: 96/100 🔴🔴 | Status: MAXIMUM — RESIDENTS TOLD TO LEAVE; SMOKE RISING; LITANI COMBAT; WEEKS FROM PENTAGON
Nabatieh Governorate is at maximum danger today — arguably the most dangerous it has been since Black Wednesday. Nabatieh city residents have been told to evacuate. Smoke is rising. IDF is operating north of the Litani toward Nabatieh villages. Hezbollah is fighting back along the river. The Lebanese Army barracks were struck on May 23. The Pentagon security track — which is supposed to plan Lebanese Army deployment south of the Litani — is 3 days away. Nabatieh is simultaneously the ceasefire’s worst ground reality and its most urgent diplomatic subject.

🎯 CRITICAL INTELLIGENCE — MAY 26, 2026
⚠️ NORTH OF THE LITANI — THE RED LINE THAT HAS BEEN CROSSED
Israel’s stated operational boundary since the ceasefire extension has been the area “south of the Litani” — the Yellow Line zone and its immediate approaches. Today’s CBS News confirmation that Israel is “intensifying strikes in Nabatieh city and province, just north of the Litani River” represents the crossing of a geographic threshold that changes the entire operational picture.
Why this matters:
- Nabatieh city is north of the Litani — it is outside the previously stated security zone
- The ceasefire extension framework (45 days) was supposed to provide protection for communities north of the IDF security zone
- Nabatieh residents being told to leave creates a new population displacement wave affecting Lebanon’s most significant southern administrative centre
- The Pentagon security track is supposed to discuss Lebanese Army deployment south of the Litani — but the IDF is now operating north of it
If Nabatieh city — population 35,000+ — is fully evacuated and struck, it represents the largest single displacement event of the ceasefire period and the most dramatic Israeli expansion of operations since the ceasefire began.
⚠️ THE “FORCE TRUMP’S HAND” STRATEGY — ISRAEL’S CALCULATED ESCALATION
Negar Mortazavi’s analysis — that Israel is intensifying Lebanon attacks to prevent a US-Iran deal — is the most important strategic assessment of the current phase. The logic:
If the US reaches a deal with Iran that includes Lebanon ceasefire enforcement (per the Channel 12 draft), Israel faces:
- Pressure to stop strikes
- A formal mechanism for Hezbollah disarmament that Lebanon’s government — not Israel — controls
- Reduced IDF “freedom of action”
- A potential US-monitored withdrawal timeline
By escalating now — before the deal — Israel forces Trump to either: (A) Exclude Lebanon from the deal (preserving Israeli freedom of action) (B) Give Israel massive concessions on Lebanon before agreeing to any Iran deal (C) Accept the deal with Lebanon included — but with Israel having already established maximum ground facts
The Pentagon security track on May 29 may be partially designed to counter this Israeli strategy — by creating a military-to-military framework that gives Israel security guarantees it needs without requiring maximum violence to achieve them.
⚠️ THREE DAYS TO THE PENTAGON — THE STAKES
The May 29 security track now occurs in the context of:
- 11 killed in Mashghara on Monday (2 girls)
- Nabatieh residents told to leave today
- IDF operating north of the Litani for the first time
- US sinking Iranian ships
- Iran accusing US of “grave violation”
- Rubio saying “several more days” for a deal
- Israel accused of deliberately intensifying to prevent a deal
- Lebanese Army barracks struck on May 23
The Lebanese military delegation arriving at the Pentagon on May 29 carries the weight of 3,100+ dead, a struck barracks, an expanding Israeli operational zone, and 19 days of Beirut’s safety that could end at any moment.
What must come from May 29:
- A concrete IDF withdrawal timeline from areas north of the Litani
- A framework for Lebanese Army deployment as IDF withdraws
- A mechanism for preventing Hezbollah from refilling the vacuum
- A Blue Line demarcation that gives both sides certainty
None of these are easy. All are essential.
📱 EMERGENCY GUIDANCE — MAY 26, 2026
🚨 MAXIMUM EMERGENCY — WEST BEKAA AND NABATIEH
MASHGHARA AND ALL WEST BEKAA COMMUNITIES: 11 killed on Monday including 2 girls. The West Bekaa is experiencing mass-casualty strikes. Leave immediately. Move north toward Zahle and then toward Beirut.
NABATIEH CITY AND SURROUNDINGS: RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN TOLD TO LEAVE. AFP documents smoke rising from the city. IDF is intensifying strikes “just north of the Litani.” Hezbollah is fighting IDF forces at the Litani. DO NOT BE IN NABATIEH CITY. Move north toward Sidon and then Beirut.
SOUTH LEBANON: IDF operating north of the Litani toward Nabatieh villages. Hezbollah attacking IDF forces at the river. Active combat zone expanding. Do not be south of Sidon.
BEIRUT: 19 days without a direct strike — but Israel is described as escalating deliberately to influence negotiations. The situation can deteriorate rapidly. Maintain emergency preparedness.
MAY 29 PENTAGON — 3 DAYS: Do not make any major decisions about return to south Lebanon until after May 29 produces an outcome. The security track may produce a withdrawal framework — or it may produce nothing. Either outcome will be immediately communicated by CIS.

⚠️ FINAL ASSESSMENT — MAY 26, 2026
War Day 88. Ceasefire Extension Day 12. Three days to the Pentagon.
On Monday May 25, eleven people were killed in the town of Mashghara in the western Bekaa Valley. Two of them were girls. Their names have not yet been published. The Lebanese Health Ministry called it a “preliminary toll” — which means it may not be the final number.
Today, Nabatieh city’s residents were told to leave. An AFP photographer named Abbas Fakih stood somewhere near the city and photographed smoke rising after an Israeli missile strike. That photo — published by AFP/Getty Images today — will go into the historical record of this war alongside all the others.
The US sank two Iranian ships on Monday. Iran called it a “grave violation” of the ceasefire. Rubio said talks would take “several more days.” An analyst told Democracy Now that Israel is intensifying attacks to “force Trump’s hand” and prevent an Iran-US deal.
The ceasefire has been described as “chaotic — violated from day one.”
Three days from now, the first Lebanese-Israeli military-to-military talks in history will take place at the Pentagon. The Lebanese military delegation will arrive knowing that:
- Their barracks in Nabatieh was struck on May 23
- Nabatieh city is being evacuated today
- 11 people including 2 girls were killed in the Bekaa on Monday
- The IDF is now operating north of the Litani
- 3,100+ Lebanese have been killed since March 2
Three days. Pentagon. May 29.
Lebanon needs it to matter more than it has ever needed anything.
