🚨 BREAKING DEVELOPMENTS — SATURDAY APRIL 25, 2026

🔴 #1 — 2,496 KILLED; 7,719 WOUNDED — DEATH TOLL CONTINUES TO RISE DURING CEASEFIRE

[Al Jazeera — 20 hours ago; CBS — 4 minutes ago confirmed; Lebanese MoPH]

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health updated the toll today: Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed 2,496 people and wounded 7,719 in Lebanon. The toll has risen by nearly 200 since April 22 — meaning the ceasefire, now in its ninth day, is adding approximately 20-25 deaths per day. The cumulative death toll of 2,496 includes 165+ children, 252+ women, and 87+ medical workers.

🔴 #2 — NETANYAHU ORDERS IDF TO “FORCEFULLY ATTACK HEZBOLLAH TARGETS”; 6 KILLED IN LEBANON TODAY

[CBS — 4 minutes ago; AP/Local10 — 1 day ago; Al Jazeera — 20 hours ago]

The new attacks followed orders from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the military to “forcefully attack Hezbollah targets” after the army accused it of breaching the truce.

Today’s confirmed Lebanon strikes:

  • Israeli strikes on a truck and a motorbike in the town of Yohmor al-Shaqeef killed four people, and an attack on the town of Safad al-Battikh killed two and injured 17.
  • Israel’s military said it “eliminated” three Hezbollah operatives on Saturday who were driving “a vehicle loaded with weapons,” as well as another one riding a motorcycle, and two more armed members of the group elsewhere.
  • Lebanese media reports that a car was targeted in an Israeli strike in the southern Lebanon town of Yohmor.

Al Jazeera’s Heidi Pett from Tyre: The attacks were carried out north of the Litani River, below which Israel has unilaterally declared to be operating. Meanwhile, in the city of Bint Jbeil, also in southern Lebanon, Israeli soldiers reportedly blew up buildings on Saturday morning.

On Friday, Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon killed at least six people and injured two more, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported.

🔴 #3 — HEZBOLLAH: CEASEFIRE “HAS NO MEANING”; FIRES ON SHTULA; ACCUSES ISRAEL OF VIOLATIONS

[Al Jazeera — 2 days ago; CNN — 1 day ago; Al Jazeera — 19 hours ago]

In response to the continued attacks in southern Lebanon, Hezbollah dismissed the extension of the ceasefire as “meaningless”. “It is essential to point out that the ceasefire is meaningless in light of Israel’s insistence on hostile acts, including assassinations, shelling, and gunfire,” said Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Fayyad.

Hezbollah said that the agreement “has no meaning” due to Israel continuing its attacks on Lebanese territory.

Hezbollah said on Thursday it fired rockets at northern Israel, accusing the country of violating the ceasefire. “In defence of Lebanon and its people, and in response to the Israeli enemy’s violation of the ceasefire and its targeting of the town of Yater in southern Lebanon,” Hezbollah “targeted the Shtula settlement with a rocket salvo.”

Israel’s military also said it identified two projectiles launched from Lebanon, decrying “a blatant violation of the ceasefire understandings” by Hezbollah, and later intercepted another “suspicious aerial target.”

Hezbollah politician Ali Fayyad said that every Israeli attack gave Hezbollah the “right to retaliate.”

🔴 #4 — TRUMP CANCELS ISLAMABAD IRAN TALKS TRIP; ARAGHCHI LEAVES WITHOUT MEETING US OFFICIALS

[Times of Israel — 16 hours ago; CBS — 4 minutes ago; AP — 1 day ago; Al Jazeera — 17 hours ago]

In a post on Truth Social confirming and explaining his decision to cancel US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s trip to Islamabad for talks with Iran, US President Donald Trump says: “If they want to talk, all they have to do is call.” With Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi already having left Pakistan, the efforts to reach a deal on ending the war appear to be deadlocked. Iran has demanded that the US end its blockade of Iranian ports as a condition for resuming talks, and the US has ruled this out.

“I just cancelled the trip of my representatives going to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians. Too much time wasted on traveling, too much work!” he writes. “Besides which, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership.’ Nobody knows who is in charge, including them.” he says. “Also, we have all the cards, they have none!”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Oman for Pakistan, where he is set to attend “key consultative meetings” with Pakistani officials in Islamabad before traveling to Moscow for talks with senior Russian leaders.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif said he spoke to Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, by phone on Saturday night after the in-person meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi earlier in the day. “During their warm and cordial conversation that lasted fifty minutes, the two leaders had a detailed exchange of views on the current regional situation and ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region,” Sharif said in a statement, though no details on a possible peace deal were released.

A source familiar with the matter says that Araghchi could return to Pakistan to meet with Witkoff and Kushner early next week after completing his trips to Oman and Russia.

Trump told Fox News on Sunday: “If they want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us. You know, there is a telephone. We have nice secure lines.”

🔴 #5 — IDF SOLDIERS FILMED DESTROYING SOLAR PANELS IN SOUTH LEBANON — IDF INVESTIGATING

[Times of Israel — 16 hours ago; CNN confirmed]

The IDF is investigating after footage shows soldiers damaging solar panels in southern Lebanon town. This latest evidence of deliberate property destruction follows Haaretz’s confirmation this week that Israeli soldiers have been looting homes and businesses on a wide scale. The solar panel destruction — filmed and publicly posted — represents a new category of documented war crimes complaint: deliberate, filmed destruction of civilian energy infrastructure. Israel’s ongoing spree is “part of a continued pattern of Israeli military activity, despite what is ostensibly a ceasefire”, Al Jazeera’s Heidi Pett said, adding that the “rumble and thud of explosions” could be heard across southern swaths of the country. “That is Israel demolishing houses and buildings,” she said.

🔴 #6 — CNN SATELLITE IMAGERY: BINT JBEIL CENTRE COMPLETELY FLATTENED BY APRIL 23

[CNN — 1 day ago]

CNN satellite imagery shows the scale of the destruction. On April 14th, satellite imagery shows the centre of Bint Jbeil severely damaged, with grey debris patterns suggesting burning consistent with demolitions. By April 23rd, the remaining buildings and structures had been completely flattened. The historic town of Bint Jbeil — symbolic centre of Hezbollah’s 2000 and 2006 victories — has been completely levelled by the IDF. Families who lived in Bint Jbeil for generations have no homes to return to.

🔴 #7 — CEASEFIRE FORMAL TERMS: ISRAEL CAN TAKE “ALL NECESSARY MEASURES IN SELF-DEFENSE”

[CNN — 1 day ago; Wikipedia ceasefire — confirmed]

The terms of the ceasefire agreement outline that Israel is allowed to take “all necessary measures in self-defense.” This clause is the legal basis for every Israeli strike during the ceasefire. Netanyahu’s statement that Israel was “maintaining full freedom of action against any threat” is entirely consistent with the ceasefire’s written terms. The ceasefire is not a mutual halt to all military operations — it is a structured permission for Israel to continue striking any target it designates as a “threat” while calling it “self-defense.” This is why the death toll continues rising during the ceasefire.

⚠️ #8 — NETANYAHU REVEALS CANCER TREATMENT; WITHHELD FOR TWO MONTHS “AT HEIGHT OF WAR”

[Al Jazeera — 1 day ago; CBS confirmed]

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has successfully undergone treatment for early-stage prostate cancer after a small tumour was detected during a routine check-up. The 76-year-old said he asked for the news to be withheld for two months so it would not be released “at the height of the war” with Iran, adding that the delay was intended to prevent “more false propaganda against Israel.”

The revelation that the Israeli prime minister was undergoing cancer treatment while conducting a two-front war (Iran + Lebanon) has profound implications for Israeli political stability and war management. Netanyahu says the treatment was successful.

⚠️ #9 — IRAN: US BLOCKADE IS CEASEFIRE VIOLATION; SANCTIONED TANKER PASSES HORMUZ

[NBC — 1 day ago; Times of Israel — confirmed]

A U.S.-sanctioned supertanker has passed through the Strait of Hormuz despite a naval blockade, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency. Oil prices remain at over $105 a barrel. The Iranian mission to the United Nations called on the U.S. to be held accountable for its “illegal seizure” of the Iranian commercial vessel “Toska” last week. Iran’s defence ministry spokesman: The US “is looking for a face-saving way to escape the war quagmire it has become trapped in.”

⚠️ #10 — LEBANESE, EGYPTIAN, PAKISTANI DIPLOMACY CONTINUES DESPITE US CANCELLATION

[AP — 1 day ago; CBS — confirmed]

Egyptian and Pakistani foreign ministers late Friday discussed efforts to launch a new round of talks between the United States and Iran. Badr Abdelatty of Egypt spoke by phone with his Pakistani counterpart Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Pakistan’s mediation channel remains active even after Trump’s cancellation. A source familiar with the matter says that Araghchi could return to Pakistan to meet with Witkoff and Kushner early next week after completing his trips to Oman and Russia. Araghchi is now on his way to Russia — meaning Moscow is also being drawn into the Iran diplomacy as a potential guarantor or mediator.

⚠️ #11 — UN WARNS ISRAELI ATTACKS IN LEBANON MAY VIOLATE INTERNATIONAL LAW

[Al Jazeera — 20 hours ago]

The United Nations has warned that Israeli attacks on Lebanon may violate international law — a separate formal UN assessment from its ceasefire violation monitoring. This follows documented white phosphorus use in Bint Jbeil and Yohmor, looting of civilian property confirmed by Haaretz, destruction of solar panels filmed by soldiers, demolition of entire city centres (Bint Jbeil), and the killing of journalist Amal Khalil with ambulances blocked four hours.

⚠️ #12 — COMMUNITY VOICES: LEBANESE CIVILIANS EXHAUSTED; WANT LEBANESE ARMY DEPLOYED; “WE ARE NOT LIVING IN PEACE”

[NBC — 1 day ago]

Nadine Yehia, 24, said she was tired of the instability that the war, the escalation, and the temporary ceasefires bring. “We have work, we have school, families need to get back to their homes,” she said. Kaled Daher, 65, said he is tired of war. “We are exhausted, we are sick,” he said. Daher said that the Lebanese army should be deployed across Lebanon and take control. “I don’t want Hezbollah,” he said. “We want to live and raise our children — we are not living in peace.”

Lebanese university student Nuwayhid, 18: “Being back here on campus and, like, having my uni experience back, you know, it means a lot to me. But she said that Israel’s military presence in the southern part of her country, which Israel claims is for security concerns, has to end. ‘I just know, like, no matter what, at some point it is Lebanese territory, so it’ll be, like, back.'”

🌡️ GOVERNORATE SECURITY INDEX — APRIL 25, 2026

🏙️ BEIRUT

Index: 65/100 🟡 | Trend: Stable — 17 days without Beirut strikes; students returning to campus

With a temporary ceasefire, she and her classmates can go back to some semblance of a normal life, she said. There was online instruction during the war, she said, but it’s not the same as attending class. “Being back here on campus and, like, having my uni experience back, you know, it means a lot to me.”

Beirut is 17 days without a direct Israeli airstrike — the longest stretch since March 2. Universities are reopening. Cafés are operating. The capital is slowly recovering a semblance of normality. However, the ceasefire’s continued violations in the south mean Beirut cannot declare safety. Hezbollah fires rockets daily. Israel strikes daily. The extension is real, but so are the violations.

🏞️ MOUNT LEBANON

Index: 66/100 🟡 | Trend: Stable — Calm; displaced families assessing

Mount Lebanon is calm. Displaced families from the Yellow Line zone are assessing whether to attempt return. Lebanese political figures’ advice to delay return remains active — particularly for Nabatieh families. The Bint Jbeil satellite imagery (completely flattened by April 23) means some families’ homes no longer exist to return to.

🌊 NORTH LEBANON & TRIPOLI

Index: 65/100 🟡 | Trend: Stable

North Lebanon is stable. Some displaced families are returning to accessible south Lebanon communities. However, the continued daily strikes mean full return to Nabatieh’s southern districts and Yellow Line villages remains impossible.

🌲 AKKAR

Index: 67/100 🟡 | Trend: Stable — Masnaa open; Syria-Lebanon movement continuing

Masnaa crossing open. Normal Syrian-Lebanese family movement. Humanitarian conditions improving marginally. WFP food insecurity warning remains active.

🍇 BEQAA VALLEY

Index: 74/100 🟡 | Trend: Easing — No strikes in 10 days; Shmestar cemetery accessible

The Bekaa Valley has been strike-free for 10 days. The Shmestar cemetery — where mourners were killed on Black Wednesday — is now accessible. Families are beginning to process grief. However, the Bekaa corridor remains close to IDF positions in the south and any ceasefire collapse restores maximum danger immediately.

🕌 BAALBEK-HERMEL

Index: 76/100 🟡 | Trend: Elevated — Hezbollah stronghold; IDF nearby

Baalbek-Hermel has seen no direct strikes during the ceasefire. The extended ceasefire provides genuine relief. But the fundamental political question — what happens to Hezbollah’s arsenal in the event of a permanent peace framework — is unresolved and directly affects Baalbek-Hermel more than any other governorate.

🌴 SOUTH LEBANON

Index: 85/100 🔴 | Status: CEASEFIRE ACTIVELY VIOLATED — 6 KILLED TODAY; BINT JBEIL FLATTENED

South Lebanon is the daily killing ground of this “ceasefire.” Today: Yohmor — 4 killed; Safad al-Battikh — 2 killed, 17 wounded. Friday: 6 killed. Thursday: 3 killed. Bint Jbeil: completely flattened per CNN satellite imagery. IDF soldiers filmed destroying solar panels. Demolitions of buildings in Bint Jbeil continue this morning. Hezbollah fires rockets in response. Israel strikes in response to Hezbollah. The ceasefire’s “self-defense” clause permits unlimited Israeli action. The result is a ceasefire that kills approximately 20 people per day.

SOUTH LEBANON IS NOT SAFE FOR RETURN — REGARDLESS OF THE CEASEFIRE EXTENSION.

⛪ NABATIEH

Index: 83/100 🔴 | Status: Most heavily damaged; Yohmor killed 4 today; Bint Jbeil levelled

Nabatieh suffered the most damage of any governorate and continues to absorb daily strikes. Yohmor al-Shaqif (in Nabatieh) hit today — 4 killed. Bint Jbeil (Nabatieh) completely flattened per CNN satellite imagery by April 23. IDF still present and operating in Nabatieh’s southern half. The Yellow Line cuts through Nabatieh.

🎯 CRITICAL INTELLIGENCE — APRIL 25, 2026

⚠️ THE CEASEFIRE THAT ISN’T: UNDERSTANDING THE “SELF-DEFENSE” CLAUSE

The most important thing to understand about Lebanon’s ceasefire is what the State Department actually agreed to. The formal terms include: “Israel retains the right to act in self-defense against imminent or ongoing threats, while refraining from offensive military operations in Lebanon.”

This means Israel can strike any target it designates as a “threat” — which includes any Hezbollah vehicle, any person it identifies as a Hezbollah member, and any building it claims is used for military purposes. Netanyahu has confirmed Israel is “maintaining full freedom of action against any threat.” The ceasefire is therefore not a halt to all violence — it is a diplomatic framework within which Israel continues its military campaign at a reduced but still lethal pace.

The result: 20-25 Lebanese killed per day during the “ceasefire” — down from the 40-50/day average during the active war, but far from zero. The 2,496 killed since March 2 will continue rising throughout the three-week extension.

WHAT WOULD A REAL CEASEFIRE LOOK LIKE? A genuine halt requires: (1) Israel stopping all offensive operations; (2) Hezbollah stopping all attacks; (3) International monitoring mechanism. None of these three conditions exist. The current arrangement is a managed reduction in violence, not a ceasefire in the traditional sense.

⚠️ IRAN DIPLOMACY: DEADLOCKED — WHAT NEXT?

Trump cancelled the Islamabad talks. Araghchi left without meeting US officials. Trump says Iran can “call us.” Iran’s FM is heading to Russia — drawing Moscow into the mediation as a potential guarantor. The Iran ceasefire is extended indefinitely but neither side is making progress. Iran’s conditions (US end naval blockade, Hormuz sovereignty, Lebanon ceasefire, sanctions lifted, assets unblocked) remain far from what the US will accept. The most likely near-term scenario: Araghchi visits Russia, gets Moscow’s backing for a new proposal, returns to Pakistan next week, and a second Islamabad meeting is scheduled for late April/early May.

📱 EMERGENCY GUIDANCE — APRIL 25, 2026

⚠️ WHAT DISPLACED FAMILIES NEED TO KNOW TODAY

DO NOT RETURN TO SOUTH LEBANON based on the ceasefire extension. Today’s strikes in Yohmor (4 killed) and Safad al-Battikh (2 killed, 17 wounded) — both during the ceasefire — confirm this is not safe. Lebanese political figures are advising delay.

BINT JBEIL: CNN satellite imagery confirms the city centre is completely flattened. If your home was in central Bint Jbeil, there may be nothing to return to. Do not attempt entry — IDF is present and demolitions continue this morning.

YELLOW LINE VILLAGES: Still barred. IDF still present. Demolitions ongoing. Do not attempt return.

PROPERTY CRIMES: IDF soldiers are confirmed looting homes (Haaretz) and destroying solar panels (filmed footage). If you are a displaced family from south Lebanon, document all property you left behind. Photograph your home before the war via any archived images, videos, or satellite imagery. This documentation will be essential for any future compensation claims.

CEASEFIRE EXPIRES MAY 14: The three-week extension ends May 14. That is 19 days from today. Use this time for: evacuation planning if you are in a high-risk area; return planning for accessible communities; mental health recovery; family reconnection across the country.

⚠️ FINAL ASSESSMENT — APRIL 25, 2026

The ceasefire is extended by three weeks. And Lebanon has lost 2,496 people since March 2. Six more died today.

What is real:

  • Bint Jbeil — once Hezbollah’s symbolic capital, site of Nasrallah’s greatest speeches — is completely flattened. Satellite imagery confirms it. The rumble of IDF demolitions can be heard from Tyre.
  • Yohmor was struck today. Safad al-Battikh was struck today. 17 people were wounded in Safad al-Battikh alone.
  • Netanyahu ordered the military to attack “forcefully” — on the second day of a three-week ceasefire extension he agreed to.
  • IDF soldiers were filmed destroying solar panels. They looted motorcycles and televisions and paintings. They flew an Israeli flag over Majdal Zoun.
  • And Trump cancelled the Islamabad talks with a Truth Social post complaining it was “too much work.”

What is also real:

  • Beirut has had 17 consecutive days without a direct Israeli airstrike.
  • Lebanese university students are back on campus.
  • Families displaced twice in two years are beginning to think about the future.
  • The US has committed — in Trump’s own words — to helping Lebanon “protect itself from Hezbollah.”
  • Lebanon and Israel have met twice at the White House. They have not met at all since 1983.

The ceasefire is not peace. But it is not nothing.

Lebanon has 19 more days on this ceasefire clock. Use them.
