WAR DAY 224 · TRUCE DAY 114 · October 11, 2026
INDEX LEVEL: 🟠 HIGH — RISING OVERALL INDEX: 75/100 (National Alert Level = highest governorate score: Nabatieh) TREND: ⬆️ RISING — up 5 points from 70 (HIGH) on October 10. The run of days without reported civilian deaths ended on Sunday morning. A retired soldier was killed by Israeli artillery fire near Yater while picking olives in his field. Earlier, a man was killed when a munition exploded in an olive field in Froun. Both villages are in the Bint Jbeil district, Nabatieh governorate. These are the first civilian deaths in Lebanon CIS has recorded since at least October 5. Nabatieh rises from 70 to 75. South Lebanon rises 2 points to 68 after confirmation of a drone strike on Jermaq (Jezzine) outside Israel's declared "buffer zone," two airstrikes on Mansouri and the demolition of several houses in Byout al-Siyad. Baalbek-Hermel eases to 42 as the October 9 strike decays. The Dahr al-Baidar explosives seizure is moved from Mount Lebanon to Beqaa (see below).
Quick answer — Is Lebanon safe today (October 11, 2026)? The far south is more dangerous than earlier this week. Nabatieh is 75 and South Lebanon 68 (HIGH), and two civilians were killed in olive groves on Sunday. Do not go to fields near the border to harvest olives unless the Lebanese Army has cleared the area. Baalbek-Hermel is 42 (MEDIUM). Beirut (38), Beqaa (33), Mount Lebanon (26) and Keserwan-Jbeil (21) are LOW; North (17) and Akkar (16) are MINIMAL. Rafic Hariri International Airport is operating.
📌 REVISIONS AND CORRECTIONS
- Dahr al-Baidar placement corrected: The October 10 edition scored the explosives seizure under Mount Lebanon. L'Orient Today's later reporting places the Dahr al-Baidar checkpoint in the Bekaa. CIS has moved the incident to the Beqaa governorate. Mount Lebanon returns to 26 and Beqaa rises to 33. The national level is unaffected. This is logged in the correction register.
- October 7 figure: still under revision review; no change published.

⛔ EXECUTIVE SUMMARY — SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2026 (WAR DAY 224)
1. TWO CIVILIANS KILLED DURING THE OLIVE HARVEST
- Yater (Bint Jbeil): A retired soldier was killed by Israeli artillery fire while harvesting olives in his field on Sunday (L'Orient Today). His name and age were not published.
- Froun (Bint Jbeil): Earlier on Sunday morning, a man was killed when an Israeli munition exploded in an olive field on the edge of the "buffer zone." L'Orient Today describes it as unexploded ordnance from the last war. Lebanese Army personnel and al-Rissala Scouts civil defence rescuers recovered the body. Froun is one of the three "pilot zones" announced by Washington at the end of July.
- Kfar Shuba outskirts (Hasbaya): Israeli forces opened fire between Wadi Halta and the edge of the village while residents were harvesting olives. No injuries were reported.
CIS assessment: This is the most serious day for civilians in CIS's recent editions. The olive harvest puts farmers in fields near Israeli positions and in land contaminated with unexploded ordnance. Both deaths are coded as civilian: a retired soldier working his own land is a civilian. The harvest season is now the main daily risk for residents of the border districts.
2. THE GROUND: DEMOLITIONS, AIRSTRIKES, NIGHT SHELLING
Saturday evening, October 10:
- Haddatha (Bint Jbeil): shortly after 10 p.m., Israeli forces demolished several houses; the explosions were heard as far as the Zahrani region.
- Jermaq (Jezzine): L'Orient Today's recap confirms a drone attack and two artillery shells on the Jermaq area, outside the "buffer zone" Israel has declared. No casualties. (Logged as unverified yesterday; now verified and scored.)
Overnight Saturday to Sunday:
- Artillery (at least nine localities): Mayfadoun, Zawtar Sharqieh, Nabatieh Fawqa, Kfar Tibnit (Nabatieh; more than 10 shells around midnight); Wadi Slouqi near Mais al-Jabal (Marjayoun, intensifying after 2 a.m.); Mansouri and the Zebqine valley (Tyre); Aita al-Jabal (Bint Jbeil).
- Machine-gun fire from the Israeli "Radar" position on Zawtar Sharqieh, Kfar Tibnit and Shebaa; gunfire near Doubieh Castle.
- Illumination flares over Arnoun and between Shaqra and Mais al-Jabal.
Sunday, October 11:
- Airstrikes: Mansouri (two, from 9 a.m.), Talloussa (Marjayoun), Kfar Tibnit and Wadi Hujeir.
- Byout al-Siyad (coast south of Tyre): several houses demolished between 9:30 and 11 a.m.
- Israeli army alerts: a "suspicious aerial target" alert over south Lebanon on Sunday evening; no details. Separately, Israeli media reported a soldier slightly injured when munitions exploded inside a Merkava tank, which the army described as an "operational incident." Not scored.
3. DAHR AL-BAIDAR: POLITICAL REACTIONS, ARMY CALLS FOR VIGILANCE
L'Orient Today reports that two Hezbollah members have been implicated in the seizure of several hundred kilograms of explosives at the Dahr al-Baidar checkpoint. Hezbollah has issued no official response.
- Amal Movement: declined to comment, "awaiting the outcome of the investigation and Hezbollah's official position."
- Walid Joumblatt: welcomed the state's seizure of weapons and explosives.
- MP Tony Frangieh (Marada): said Hezbollah is rearming for the next stage and the real solution is Israeli withdrawal and Resolution 1701.
- MP Ashraf Rifi: called for an end to Hezbollah's armed presence.
- Army commander Gen. Rodolphe Haykal: said the Army has stepped up security vigilance and urged citizens to report suspicious activity. He also expressed hope that compulsory military service would be reinstated.
CIS assessment: Reactions are split along familiar lines. The practical message for the public is the Army's call to report suspicious activity. Intended use of the explosives remains unconfirmed and is not scored.
4. BEKAA: ARMY OPERATIONS IN BAALBEK
- Riha (Baalbek): the Army raided the area and arrested the brother of a known drug trafficker and other wanted people, seizing weapons.
- Kneisseh (Baalbek): the Army destroyed a 60,000 m² cannabis plantation and arrested 17 Syrian workers without valid papers.
- No new Israeli strike in the Bekaa was reported. The October 9 strike near Hosh al-Sayyed Ali continues to decay.
5. UNIFIL AND DIPLOMACY
- UNIFIL: Eight Lebanese MPs gave UN Special Coordinator Jean Arnault a legal memorandum asking for a review of Resolution 2790 (2025), which ends UNIFIL's mandate. It follows the initiative of 86 MPs.
- US: a State Department official told Al Arabiya that Washington is "ready to discuss serious measures to disarm Hezbollah." An unnamed US source told the channel Hezbollah earns about $40 million a month from smuggling and counterfeiting — unverified.
- President Joseph Aoun urged national unity and condemned the attacks on Saudi Arabia, as did Public Works Minister Fayez Rassamny.
- Coming up: EU foreign ministers' decision on a Lebanese Army training mission (Monday, October 12); Lebanon–Israel talks in Florida (October 20).
6. REGIONAL: DEADLIEST ATTACK ON SAUDI ARABIA IN A DECADE
- Riyadh airport: A Houthi strike on King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, October 10, killed 12 people and wounded 309. The dead were four Saudis, two Bangladeshis, and one each from the US, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan and Egypt. All flights were diverted and operations suspended. The Houthis claimed the attack. On Sunday, the coalition said an "unidentified projectile" hit Terminal 4, causing a fire, and a cruise missile was intercepted. The US embassy "strongly recommends all U.S. citizens avoid this airport and surrounding areas."
- Hormuz: CENTCOM said a US jet disabled the Panama-flagged M/V Ocean Molica, which was trying to run the US blockade of Iran in the Gulf of Oman, "without harming the crew." UKMTO reported a tanker damaged after being hit in the Strait of Hormuz. Transits fell to their lowest in more than two months.
- Iran: Israel's Maariv reported deliberations in Washington and Jerusalem over a possible future attack on Iran; President Trump has said there will be no US attack before November 3.
- Yemen: Government forces claim gains near Bab al-Mandeb; Houthi media reported a strike on Sanaa airport.
CIS assessment: Lebanese travelers and workers in Saudi Arabia are directly affected. Do not travel via Riyadh until operations normalize, and follow your embassy's guidance. CIS does not score regional events.

🛡️ WAR DAY 224 GUIDANCE — WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11
- Olive harvest near the border — the key warning today: do not enter groves in Yater, Froun, Kfar Shuba, Haddatha, Aita al-Jabal or any field within sight of Israeli positions. Two people were killed on Sunday. Coordinate with the Lebanese Army and your municipality before harvesting; go in daylight, in small groups, and leave at once if there is gunfire or drones overhead.
- Unexploded ordnance: fields in the Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun, Nabatieh and Tyre districts may hold munitions from the war. Do not touch, move or burn anything unfamiliar. Mark the spot from a distance and call the Army.
- Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun, Hasbaya, Nabatieh and Tyre districts: follow Army and Civil Defence instructions; act immediately on any evacuation notice.
- Jezzine district: strikes have reached Jermaq, outside the declared zone. Stay alert to drone activity.
- Report suspicious activity — vehicles, packages, people — to the Army or ISF, as the Army commander has asked.
- Travel to or via Saudi Arabia: Riyadh airport is closed or disrupted. Do not travel until your airline confirms; follow your embassy's advice.
- Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Keserwan-Jbeil, North and Akkar: normal activity with standard awareness.
CIS POSTURE: LEVEL 5 — HIGH ALERT (unchanged)
What CIS is watching: the names and circumstances of the Yater and Froun victims; further incidents during the olive harvest; the EU decision on Monday; the Dahr al-Baidar investigation; any Israeli explanation of the "suspicious aerial target" alerts; Riyadh airport operations; and US–Iran signals after the Maariv report.
❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS — LEBANON SECURITY TODAY
What is Lebanon's security level today, October 11, 2026? The CIS Lebanon Security Index™ national alert level is 75/100 (HIGH), up 5 points from October 10, after two civilians were killed in the Bint Jbeil district. It equals the highest governorate score (Nabatieh).
Is it safe to harvest olives in south Lebanon? Not near the border without Army coordination. On October 11, one man was killed by Israeli artillery near Yater and another by an exploding munition in Froun, both while in olive fields. Harvest only in areas cleared by the Army, in daylight, and leave at once if there is fire or drone activity.
What should I do if I find unexploded ordnance? Do not touch, move or burn it. Keep people and animals away, note the location from a distance, and call the Lebanese Army or Civil Defence (125).
Is Beirut safe today? Beirut scores 38/100 (LOW) with no direct incident. Normal activity continues with standard awareness.
Can I fly to Riyadh? Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport suspended operations after a Houthi strike on October 10 killed 12 people. Check with your airline and follow your embassy's guidance before traveling.
Is Beirut airport open? Yes. Rafic Hariri International Airport is operating with no disruption reported.
How is the CIS Lebanon Security Index calculated? Scores are computed from verified, coded incidents across all 9 governorates using a seven-day decay window. Unverified reports score zero and combatant casualties do not score as casualties. The national level is the highest governorate score. Published daily at 8:00 AM Beirut time. Read the methodology →
